Meals on wheels food transport box performance figures

Meals on Wheels insulated Thermo Box hot food transport box performance test

This Thermo box test has been carried out in real, but far from ideal conditions with just four 400g ready meals in each medium sized insulatedThermobox

Because of the less than ideal food quantity in each box, as recommended by us, one box also contains 1 x Thermo-Boost and 1 x Thermo-Shield

Each meal has a weight of 400g and meals were taken out of the insulated transport boxes regularly (see graph at the bottom of the page) to replicate a real meals-on-wheels type delivery situation.

Date : 2nd June 2008
Time : 11.30 a.m.

The test results below show that with the Thermo-boost and a Thermo-shield inside the insulated Thermo-Boxes the length of time the food in the insulated boxes stayed above the 63C limit was more than doubled.

The test results above show the meals in each Thermo box with a core temperature of 93 to 94 degrees C when the meals were first put in the thermo box. The top row (temperature logger 002) show the temperature of the ready meal falling to 68C after over two hours in the box with the Thermo-Boost and Thermo-Shield. The bottom row of figures (temperature logger 275 show the temperature of the ready meal dropping to 64C after just 70 minutes. Again it must be mentioned that the conditions for this meals on wheels test were not ideal i.e. too little food being transported in too larger insulated thermo boxes

The graph below clearly shows the initial boost given to the meal temperatures in the Thermo box with the Thermo-Boost heat pad and the insulating Thermo-Shield sitting on top of the meals. After 20 minutes, because of the small quantity of meals in a relatively large insulated boxes, the box without the Thermo-Boost and Thermo-Shield show a large 10 degrees C drop in temperature as against just 2 degrees drop in the box with the heat pad and extra insulation. The blue dots along the bottom of the graph show the times when the meals were taken out of the transport box, i.e. after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes with the last meal staying in the box for over two hours.
